Age & suitability

When your child can join in, and how long the Tuki stays useful.

From what age does a learning tower make sense?

With the Tuki Starter Cloth your child can join in from around 9 months, as soon as it pulls itself up and can stand with support. Without the Starter Cloth we recommend starting at about 18 months, when your child stands safely and climbs in and out on its own. At the top end the Tuki is adjustable to three heights and stays in use until at least 8 years.

Who is the Tuki suitable for?

The Tuki is suitable for toddlers as soon as they stand and walk safely on their own. With the Starter Cloth as a safety closure this works from around 9 months. After that, removing the rear crossbar keeps the Tuki in use until at least 8 years of age.

Is a learning tower safe from 9 months?

Yes, if the tower is stable and the youngest children get extra support. The Tuki is TÜV SÜD tested, holds up to 100 kg and has four closed sides, rounded edges and a wide base. The Starter Cloth closes the entry opening and supports your child at the back so it cannot slip out backwards. Like any standing aid, a learning tower should only be used with supervision.

Buying & comparison

What matters before you decide.

Learning tower or step stool: which one fits us?

A learning tower brings your child safely up to counter height and is closed on all four sides. A step stool is an open step and assumes your child already stands safely and keeps its balance. For babies and young toddlers the learning tower is therefore the right choice. A step stool can be added later, in the bathroom for example, but it does not replace the tower: thanks to the adjustable height and the removable rear crossbar the Tuki stays in use until at least 8 years.

Which learning tower is the best? What should I compare?

There is no single best learning tower, five points decide. First, tested safety: the Tuki is TÜV SÜD tested and holds up to 100 kg. Second, the starting age: from 9 months with the Starter Cloth instead of only from 18 months. Third, how long it grows with your child: the Tuki adjusts to three heights and stays in use until at least 8 years. Fourth, material and finish: real wood with a food-safe, saliva-resistant surface, the Nature version in beech, all others in sustainable birch. Fifth, the construction: four closed sides and rounded edges prevent climbing through. The Tuki was designed by Stefan Westmeyer and won the Red Dot Design Award in 2022.

What does a good learning tower cost?

The range is wide, from cheap models made of coated board to durable real-wood towers. More telling than the purchase price are the years the tower stays in use: a tower that starts at 9 months and grows with your child until 8 years costs far less per year than a cheap model replaced after two years. You will find the current price on the product page, and the Starter Cloth for the early start from 9 months is available separately.

Is the Tuki a Montessori learning tower?

Yes, the Tuki is a Montessori-inspired learning tower. The idea goes back to Maria Montessori's principle «help me to do it myself»: children come safely up to eye level and take part in everyday life on their own. The Tuki puts these principles into practice with a tip-safe construction, three height levels and use from 9 months to 8 years. There is no official Montessori certification for learning towers, what counts are the principles of independence and participation.

Safety & quality

Tested, stable and built for everyday use.

Has the Tuki's safety been tested?

The Tuki has been officially tested by TÜV SÜD.

How much weight can the Tuki hold?

The Tuki easily holds up to 100 kg.

Our Tuki wobbles. What can we do?

This is usually caused by an uneven floor. First place the Tuki where it will stand in your home. Then loosen all screws slightly and tighten them again while pressing down on both side panels. That solves the problem in most cases. If it does not, please get in touch with us.
